Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (7): Another One Bites the Dust

Alaska and Yukon ran towards the tunnel at a terrific speed.  The Caster would come soon!  She would reform, they were sure of it!

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (6): Different Tones

The next few days were a bit better.  Sure, trees continued to fall.  Quicksand swirled.  Rocks tumbled.  But, Yukon and Alaska were used to this and were able to evade injury.

One morning, Alaska woke up far later than she had intended to.  She had become quite good at reading the position of the sun and could tell it was at least eleven in the morning; she had intended to wake at seven.

She looked around and saw backpacks, trees, sand, and a Yukonless landscape.

Her once blurry mind reacted sharply.  She bolted upright and turned round and round.

"Yukon!" she screamed.  "Yukon!"

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (5): The Connection

Yukon and Alaska finally arrived at the emerald temple.  Alaska quickly ran inside, lasso in hand.  Yukon trudged behind, weighed down by various backpacks.

"Can I listen to my MP3000?" Yukon asked delicately.

Alaska sighed.  "Fine," she said.  He had been pestering her for days about it.

Yukon set down the backpacks with a large thunk that echoed through the silver hall.

"Quiet!" Alaska whispered forcefully.  "Don't do that again!"

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (4): The Little Things

Alaska woke up the next morning expecting to feel stiff from her sleep on the hard ground.  Instead, she found a grass pillow under her head with a blanket weaved with weeds on her body.  She was incredibly comfortable, a luxury that never found its way into her archaeology work.

She looked up.  Yukon, who was leaning against a tree, smiled at her.  "Good morning!" he said cheerfully, as though he had forgotten the traumatic events of the prior night.  "I figured you could use a pillow and blanket," he said, though Alaska had already connected the dots.  "Looks like those knitting classes I was telling you about came in handy!"

Alaska allowed a smile to creep onto her face.  "Thank yo-" she began.

Just like last night, she never got to finish her conversation.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (3): Something in the Air

The car's momentum was finally broken, with the car now sitting still, upright. Alaska turned.  The great mist was now coming after them again, though at a slower pace.  It had taken a lot of energy to hit the car that hard.

Alaska hunched down to reach the breaks.  She ripped out a few panels and connected a few wires.  The car roared to life.  This only worked because the mist was not currently hindering the car, as it had been doing before.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (2): The Yukon Effect

They had been driving for hours.  HOURS.

He had been talking for hours.  HOURS.

She had been going crazy for hours.  HOURS.

As Alaska and Yukon winded down the dirt road, the former contemplated stopping the car and yelling at Yukon.  She resisted, knowing that he would pout the rest of the way, making him even more unbearable.

She tried to block Yukon out as he droned on and on about his various adventures and accidents, close calls and great meals.  To him, this was amazing - he was catching up with a close friend he hadn't see in YEARS.  To her, this was a form of torture.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (1): Bitter Reunion

Alaska made her way up the stairway of the prestigious university.  It should have taken her less than a minute.  However, as she went, aspiring archaeologists, who were merely students at the moment, came to talk to her.  Scratch that - came to goggle over her.  She was their idol.

A lot had changed since her discovery of King Ra-Ra, Boris, and the rare Golden Puffle statue.  Her groundbreaking uncovering of them had teed off a whole new phase of archaeology on Club Penguin.  She had written several acclaimed books and articles and had recently became a keynote speaker.  Her star had risen considerably; she was now a household name.

A Bigger Picture (9): A Sacrifice

The crowd was clawing at Dot.  She was screaming, though she had long stopped thinking about what she was saying.  Everything was a blur.

A thin ray of light was coming from Gary's device.  It formed a dome above the Clothes Shop.  There was a timer counting down from ten on the side.

The penguins took no notice of this.  Then, the dome exploded.

A Bigger Picture (8): The Last Hope

The trio ran quickly, though the others were gaining on them.  The green penguin was the first to reach them, tugging at Dot's shirt.

Gary, Dot, and Jet Pack Guy tried to lose them by zig-zagging around.  But, it was useless.  There was no escaping this mob.

"I have an idea!" yelled Gary.  They looped around and headed for the Town.

A Bigger Picture (7): It's Just a Phase

When Dot, Gary, and Jet Pack Guy made it back to the island, everything seemed normal.  From what they heard while eavesdropping on everyday penguins (they didn't want to draw attention to themselves; the Revolutionists were surely after them), the fireworks had allegedly been part of an announcement; there would be a get-together at the Ski Village at 2:00.  There would be free food and a short presentation.

It was 1:50 at the moment.  The trio ran to the village, hiding behind things along the way.  Because of the hiding, the three barely made it in time.  They hid behind a tree towards the path of the Beach.  The place was overflowing with people.

A Bigger Picture (6): A Tall Order

Gary, Jet Pack Guy, and Dot quickly jetted to the Tallest Mountain.  Aside from thoughts of the job ahead, it was a rather peaceful ride.  At one point, Dot thought she heard yelling and a blast of air; she told herself it was probably nothing.

As Gary had requested, they landed in the middle of the forest at the base of the mountain.  He figured it was better to catch the enemy by surprise, instead of just flying to the top of the mountain and revealing themselves straight away.

They ran the rest of the way.  When they got to the base of the mountain, Gary got three computer chip-like devices out of his lab coat.

A Bigger Picture (5): The Outside Job

Two penguins skirted through the forest quickly to their destination.  They made no sound.

One was a girl; the other, a boy.  They were insignificant to most penguins - not famous and not seeking attention.

However, Dot, G, and Jet Pack Guy would recognize them in a second.  They had helped trash the EPF HQ earlier that day.

Dressed all in black, they were discreet in the foliage. That would be required for their mission.

They had no names; they were merely there to get the job Rookie had given them done.

A Bigger Picture (4): The Other Side

What Dot saw before her was the definition of destruction and sadness.  The VR Room's walls, once pearl white, were now crumpling.  What remained of them was scorched black from Herbert's fire in November 2012.  The projection of the old PSA HQ, the second one, remained frozen on some of the walls, reminding her of the tragedy that had transpired in the real building those years ago.

It was too much.  The first destruction by a popcorn bomb.  The second by arson started by Herbert.  The third by means of brutal, direct force that could have severely or fatally injured them.

And.....the betrayal of a friend.

Of a false friend, that was.

A Bigger Picture (3): Fool Me Once...

Dot, Jet Pack Guy, and Gary quickly shuffled under the table and huddled together.  It was all they could do as the brutal force of the seven people - four girls and three guys - began.  Rookie acted as the supervisor, yelling certain orders at some of his group members.

One penguin put on an Iron Man suit and started zapping certain areas of the place, sending paperwork and other things flying.  Another chopped things with a lightsaber, which was suitably red.  A third donned a James P. Sullivan costume and sent sound waves around the facility, cracking glass and foundation along the way.

The other penguins punched zip drives into the mainframe computers.  When all the info was sucked up, the computers, which Rookie had added popcorn bombs to, blew up as the zip drive had commanded the bombs to do.  Sparks and glass flew onto the floor.

For a third time, the government was under attack.  And for the third time, all the agents could do was watch.

A Bigger Picture (2): The One Detail

Rookie's look of confusion evaporated from his face.  It was replaced by the most un-Rookie like thing: a smirk.

He clapped his hands mockingly and tauntingly, sarcastically saying, "Woo!  Great job!  Yeah, let's hear it, let's hear it for G, for the incomparable Gary the Gadget Guy!  Woo!"

It was clear that the old Rookie was gone forever.  He would never make an appearance again.  In his place was a meanly sarcastic character with no good nature.

A Bigger Picture (1): No Turning Back

It had been an unusually quiet week on Club Penguin.  Being that the Island was in between parties, only a new newspaper had debuted in the past week.  EPF duties had become incredibly dry and remedial as of late.

This was what Dot had thought as she emerged from her igloo on a very uneventful Friday morning.  It was just after nine in the morning and it was time to go to work.  She figured there would be no field work, no disguises today.  Just more paperwork.

She couldn't have been more wrong.
