Quest for the Golden Puffle 3 (5): Crisis Mode

The EPF HQ was buzzing with activity.  Phones were ringing off the hook, keyboard keys were clacking at every moment, and groups of penguins were discussing public statements and the like.  But, Alaska and Yukon had another plan.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 3 (4): Required Viewing

Alaska and Yukon ran back to the EPF office, not knowing what else to do.  Alaska's mind raced as she squinted through the snow, which now fell in heavy sheets.  What could the Caster be planning?  What would it mean for citizens?  How could they stop a threat they knew next to nothing about?

Quest for the Golden Puffle 3 (3): The Last Piece

The Caster glided quickly towards the woods with Regulus in tow.  As she went, she reflected on the events of the past few minutes.  She had been sure Sir would squeal on her, knew the man hated coffee, and was aware that Sir always gave correspondents twenty minutes to get to a spur of the moment meeting.  The conclusion?  Sir would call Alaska and Yukon almost immediately after she made her final departure from his home and tell them to meet him in twenty minutes at the place he would least likely go to - the Coffee Shop.  It was child's play.  At least for the observant.  And no one beat the Caster at that game.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 3 (2): Office Oddity

Alaska and Yukon sat at their desks in the EPF offices.  They had been employed by the EPF for a few months now - ever since Mr. Sir fired them - but things hadn't been improving.  The thrill of adventure was gone and in its wake laid mounds of paperwork.  They both missed their previous job greatly.

Then came the call.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 3 (1): All That Glitters

Please Note: This story is the continuation of the storyline started in "Quest For the Golden Puffle 2" and continued in "All Hands On Deck."  If you don't read those two stories before this one, you will be extremely confused.

There was a man walking through the snow in town.  He was a light blue penguin with a hairy mustache, a brown detective coat, and a gray hat.  He looked just like anyone else on that street, but he actually carried a heavy burden.

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (7): Ruby in the Rough

Jacques ran quickly.  The bluetooth piece was stationery in a remote part of the woods.  Hammer watched the arrow that indicated himself and was soon following the path to Ruby.

Hammer then saw an open window in the corner of the screen.  It held a report that detailed the specifics of the ruby that Sizzle was after.  Evidently, the ruby was extremely rare and was made out of a rare substance that, in the typed words of Director Drake Sizzle, were "essential for Plan: Reset, the details of which are classified and only viewable by myself."

The detective finished skimming the report and clicked back to the GPS page.  He was now on top of the signal.  Moments later, he heard a crunch under his right foot and a burning sensation on the bottom of it.

Whoever made this is cool

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (6): Gone Girl

Jacques once again made his way back to PSA HQ in the black night.  He had always disliked Drake Sizzle, the person he was certain was behind all of this, but he had never thought of him as evil.  He was a dislikeable, arrogant man, but Hammer had never once thought of him as despicable.

However, it was not a far stretch.  Sizzle viewed life as an equation that needed to be solved and Hammer knew he went to great lengths to get what he wanted.  That being said, Sizzle had plenty of money.  Why would he want a ruby?  It had to be for a weapon or something.

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (5): Hammer and Saw

Hammer continued to think about his distaste for Drake Sizzle as he made his way back to the hotel.  However, once he entered, he snapped back to the case he was actually supposed to solve.  He curtly nodded at Dom, who had apparently not moved since they left a half hour ago, and made his way to Ruby's room with careful feet.

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (4): Necessary Nuisance

The snow cracked under the feet of the detective and client as the two made their way across town, away from Ruby's home.  They didn't talk because there was nothing to talk about.  Jacques Hammer may have been more inclined to make conversation had he not known of Ruby's suspicious, but perhaps innocent, activities over the past few weeks.

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (3): Doorman Doubts

The usually bustling hotel lobby was very calm as Ruby and Jacques Hammer entered the building, Hammer holding the door for the miss like a gentlemen.  The quiet room was spacious and luxurious, with red, gold, and brown being the main colors speckling the room.  Only one man stood in the lobby, behind the desk: Dom, the doorman, who had worked at the hotel for as long as anyone could remember.  The three exchanged pleasantries.

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (2): Safe and Sounds

A gentle rain began as Ms. Ruby found her way to the chair in front of Jacques Hammer's desk.  Hammer retrieved a notebook from his bag of office possessions and flipped to an open page.  He then messily rummaged around his bag for a pencil.  Instead he found a crayon, but, being too tired and embarrassed to dive into the colossal mess again, he alternatively turned to his notebook and acted like nothing was amiss.  Ms. Ruby was in such a state that she did not even notice his unprofessional act.

Ruby sighed.  "Mr. Hammer," she said, in a quiet voice, "someone is after me."  She paused and breathed.  Her next statement came out only in a whisper.  "And they want my ruby."

Ruby and the Ruby 2 (1): Back Again

Jacques Hammer stood at the window of his office.  The rain pelted against the glass as the trees swayed in the wind.  He was reflecting over his last case, which he had solved about three months ago.  Business was slow, the late rent was piling up, and no one had come into the office in weeks.

His work hours usually ended at 4:00 PM.  However, he was holding out hope that a client would come in.  It was foolish, and he knew it, but someone had to come in.

The time was 10:03.

All Hands On Deck (5): Something To Finish

The year?  2014.  The situation?  Not so unfamiliar for Mr. Sir.

Sir, the former boss of Alaska and Yukon, was currently searching his key chain to find the right key for his home.  His hands shook.  He knew who was behind that door - the Caster, who had been ordering him around for almost five months now.  Despite the frequent nature of the situation he was currently in - returning to tell the woman that whatever job she had told him to do was done - and the fact he knew how the next conversation would go, he was still terrified when he talked to the girl.

All Hands On Deck (4): Something To Move On From

Rockhopper awoke before the woman.  He heard the sound of the ocean as he opened his eyes.  He was drifting back in forth with the waves, having fallen into the ocean when the wind had finally stopped and his momentum had finally died out.  It was an all too familiar place to be for him on this day.

All Hands On Deck (3): Something To Overcome

Captain Rockhopper floated down into the sea.  After his tumble from the Migrator, his mind finally succumbed to confusion and stopped trying to process each rapid event.  He was now only vaguely aware of his predicament, though, within a few moments, his mind snapped back into focus.

All Hands On Deck (2): Something To Fear

The Migrator began to pick up speed.  It was now a few feet from the shore.

Rockhopper had to act quick.  He had no clue what to do!  He looked down at what he had with him.  He knew if he was going to catch his ship, the toolbox wasn't coming with him.

But, that's when it dawned on him; the toolbox most certainly wasn't coming.  But....

All Hands On Deck (1): Something To Prove

Please Note: This story is directly related to the events of my other story, "The Quest for the Golden Puffle 2."  You can read part one of nine of that story here.

Captain Rockhopper stood at the bow of his ship, gazing into the ocean, which was a vibrant blue.  The year was 1991.  He was a young, red penguin.  At this point in his life, the wrinkles of age, the dirty, leather coat, and the hard, yet kind expression on his face were yet to be found.  Instead, this Rockhopper was full of youth and, if he was being completely honest, anxiety.

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (9): A Familiar Place

Alaska awoke with a start.  She was under some warm blankets.  She was very tired.  She was very stiff.  She was very confused.

She soaked in her surroundings.  There wasn't much to see.  She was in a very plain white hospital room.  There were some chairs and a dresser.  There was her bed.  There was the door.  There was something familiar about it...

Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (8): A Misty Outlook

The wind had stopped.  Alaska shuffled back and cowered in the corner as the Caster approached her.
