Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (9): A Familiar Place

Alaska awoke with a start.  She was under some warm blankets.  She was very tired.  She was very stiff.  She was very confused.

She soaked in her surroundings.  There wasn't much to see.  She was in a very plain white hospital room.  There were some chairs and a dresser.  There was her bed.  There was the door.  There was something familiar about it...

Yes!  She had been here before!  This was where they had taken her during that last mission with Yukon, before she had severed ties quietly from him.

Yukon?!  Her mind jumped to her partner.  She panicked as memories of recent events flooded into her mind.  Was he alright?  Was the photographer alright?  Were all of the others alright?

She looked around her simple room again, looking for a note, something, anything that would help her make sense of things.  She found nothing.  Instead, she realized that this room hadn't changed since her last visit.  She could tell from the details - the scuffed wooden chair with a circular hole through one leg, the crack in the light fixture.  There was nothing different.  Well, aside from the fact that Mr. Sir was not in the room.

However, that was soon aided as the door opened and Sir entered.  He didn't have the chance to observe his location before Alaska started asking about the fate of Yukon.

"Quiet, quiet, my dear miss!  Everything will soon be clear," Sir came closer to her bed.  "Yukon and the others are fine.  Once you made your little fall, you became tangled in vines half way down the cliff.  After the temple had finished its destruction, Yukon was able to pop his not-so-firmly-placed artificial glass off of his "grave" and was able to help pry the other pieces of artificial glass, which were more tightly in place, off of the other graves.  Thanks to the glass and the energy replacement, all of the penguins came out of the mess just fine.

"Yukon then went back to your car and contacted us after fixing a device that was broken during your little tumble with some crafty twists of a wire.  We found no evidence of the Caster when we got there - she is finished.  What we did find was you dangling in those vines unconscious - the wind from your fast fall must have knocked you out.  We got you down from there and brought you here.  It has only been a few hours.  Yukon should be in to see you soon.  I am also sure the other penguins will send their thanks.

"But before that, there are some matters we need to attend to...." Sir went towards the door and closed it firmly, locking it afterwards.  After that final click, his calm, detached demeanor gave way to one of anger.

"Your tom-foolery destroyed an entire temple!  An archaeological gold-mine!  Hundreds of scrawlings on the wall are now lost forever!  There may have been thousands of secrets to find, enough information to rewrite the history books!  We know nothing about what the Caster was because of you!" Sir's voice was trembling with hatred.

Alaska tried to defend herself before Sir continued.  "Things escalated quickly!  I did what I did to save myself and the others!  I couldn't see another way!  The Caster was going to takeover if I didn't do something!"

Sir looked at her coldly.  "We all must make sacrifices in the name of knowledge," he said with a scowl.

He continued after a brief pause.  "We can't let little things like this happen again.  I am terminating your partnership with us permanently.  I'm not letting your precious Yukon stay either.  There's no hope for that dim disgrace."

"Don't you dare refer to him like that!!" yelled Alaska.  She was getting angry now.

Sir fought back.  "He's nothing but a liability, you blind fool!   Consider both of your careers over!!  Our partnership has run its course!!"

Sir left the room.  Alaska stared forward, anger overwhelming her.  She tried to calm down.  Everything would work out.  Yukon and herself would soon be back in the field.  Somehow everything would be fine.  Somehow...

----

Sir unlocked the door to his nice igloo and stepped inside, locking it.  He didn't even have a chance to leave the welcome mat before a voice talked to him from the dark corner, shaded in the black night.

"Did you talk to the miss?" the silky voice inquired.

"Yes," he responded quietly.  He tried to remain strong, but he really, truly, was extremely frightened.

"Did you give her the pink slip?"

"Yes.  And I looked like a horrid person in the process, with that excuse...." he said, trying to show the voice that he could state his opinions - that she was not in control.

The Caster, far smaller than she had been before her final confrontation with Alaska, flew into his face.  "Do you believe your feelings matter to me?!" she yelled with force.

Sir was scared; he backed to the wall.  He barely was able to sputter an apology out.

The Caster flew backward a little bit, but still remained close.  "Now then....did you tell her of my fabricated demise?"

"I told her everything you requested," Sir said quietly.

"Good...good," the Caster said.  "You may not be the most worthy soul, but you are a very helpful asset to me.  You will be an essential pawn in my infiltration of this society - in my trip to the top."

The Caster paused.  "Now then...let me tell you what you must do next."

The End?

Please note: "All Hands On Deck" is the next chapter in this particular story line.  Part one can be read here.

  1. Cliffhanger alert!

Cool ending. So Sir was a villain and working with The Caster this whole time? Hmm...

    1. First off, thanks for the compliment!

Secondly, while it's not stated in the story, Sir was cornered by the Caster (who, after fleeing in part eight, hid in the woods) while he was all alone looking for her, during the period of time that his team was cutting down Alaska. Seeing him as a gateway to power after her first failed attempt, the Caster forced Sir to take her back to the main island and let her stay at his igloo. She then gave Sir the orders to fire Alaska and tell her that the Caster was done for. In this way, Alaska would be unable to travel back into the field to look for her and also would have no reason to do so.

Sir was not a bad guy in the beginning of the story, nor is he particularly one now. While he does have his flaws - he can be a bit heartless and gruff - he doesn't particularity thrive on seeing others suffer and he doesn't aspire for great power. However, now the Caster has him under her control, meaning he is a vessel of evil. If he does not comply with what she says, she promises bad things will happen, so he goes along with it. Being a high-up official in Club Penguin, very bad things can happen through him....

What are these things? Well, I don't know yet. What I do know is that the Caster and Sir will be back at some point - just as evil Rookie will resurface as well.
