Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (8): A Misty Outlook

The wind had stopped.  Alaska shuffled back and cowered in the corner as the Caster approached her.

"Many people often wonder why the bad guy always does a monologue before they strike.  I have the answer - it's fun to see "the hero" squirm as I slowly lead myself into their demise," the Caster began.

"Your precious Yukon was a special case.  When I wrapped my arm around him and was unable to capture his energy during your little car caper, I left my mark on him.  He was cursed.  He came for me at the first opportunity.  Capturing him was child's play.

"But, you.......YOU are the true wild card.  You have a daring heart that doesn't quite match my other victims' terrified souls.  You truly are the GRAND finale.

"Goodbye, my sweet Alaska."

Certain events began to happen at this time.  The Caster came forward at a terrific speed.  Alaska ran toward her, wielding one of the slabs of glass that had been leaning against the wall.

As they came close to colliding, Alaska swung the slab and sliced part of the mist from the Caster.  She brought the glass down to the ground, with the mist squirming underneath.  The Caster, meanwhile, was flung against the wall, thrown back in pain.

Alaska used all her might to keep the glass and the compressed mist down.  Soon, the mist underneath it stopped squirming and went still.

Alaska stood up tentatively.  The mist floated across the ground and went through one of the slabs of glass that was covering a penguin in the hole.  The mist went into the penguin and she woke up.  She started slamming on the glass, trying to get out.

Alaska felt relieved.  There was a chance to save them!  There was a chance to save Yukon!

The Caster, who had recovered, tried to strike again.  However, Alaska cut off part of her mist again.  Soon, the energy under the glass stopped squirming and was reunited with its penguin, who slammed the glass, too.  It was working!  It was working!

Alaska did this same thing again and again.  Penguin after penguin came back to life.  The Caster became smaller and smaller.

There was one flaw in the plan, though.

You see, this glass had been created by the Caster herself.  It wasn't glass at all, in fact - it just looked like it was.  This is why the trapped penguins, now pounding, trying to get out, were able to breathe under the tight material, something that normal glass would not allow.  This "glass" was so tough and durable that whenever it hit something, it not only didn't break but actually affected the object.  Each time Alaska came down with the glass, vibrations were sent into the walls of the temple.  They were too tiny to hear or feel, but they made a large, horrible impact.

It was on Alaska's tenth swipe, when the tenth penguin came back to life under the glass (leaving only Yukon unconscious) that the temple's walls could withstand no more.  They began to rumble as they prepared to fall.

Alaska, realizing her troubles, quickly formed a plan.  She hurriedly pulled Yukon into one of the two remaining vacant holes and shoved the glass onto the top, leaving the other penguins inside their own respective "graves."  She had no clue if the glass would come off later.  It was the only chance they would have to survive.

Alaska's plan was now to jump into the other remaining hole and put the tough glass on top of her, hoping that it would withstand the pressure of the bricks tumbling to the ground.  She never had the chance.

The brick walls at the front of the temple began to tumble, the rest of the temple following its lead in a waterfall of brick.  The waterfall was nearly to center of the temple - it would soon engulf the whole thing.  All of the "graves" were now covered in the mountain of brick, meaning Alaska's plan was canceled.

The Caster screamed, having only the energy from her most recent victim left in her.  She was weak.  Her quest for power had been ruined.  There was no chance of escape.  The bricks tumbled on her and Yukon's energy floated towards his body after a moment.

Alaska ran towards the back of the temple and slid through a hole that had formed in the brick.

She hadn't realized there would be a one hundred foot drop.
