Quest for the Golden Puffle 2 (7): Another One Bites the Dust

Alaska and Yukon ran towards the tunnel at a terrific speed.  The Caster would come soon!  She would reform, they were sure of it!

They got inside and stared at the sight before them.

The temple was a dusty and gray chamber.  It was a single, tall room that was connected to the tunnel they had come in through.  It was very dark; little light came in.  This was undoubtedly the chamber that the journalist who had fallen had been in.

They walked forward timidly.  Then, the two stepped on a slab of glass.  Yukon yelped as he looked down at the new texture.

Beneath the glass, there lay a penguin.  His face was fixated into a scream.  There was no life in him.

Alaska gulped and looked from side to side.  More glass slabs, perfectly aligned around the first, were visible.  One had a penguin in a skier outfit fixated with a shocked face.  Another had a penguin wearing a letterman jacket covering their eyes.  There were exactly ten penguins around them.  And then, they found the thing that really unsettled them.

There were two extra holes, with the glass slabs for them propped against the wall.  There was an engraving scratched in each.

The first read:

Alaska

The second had another name:

Yukon

Yukon stepped back as he saw the two names.  He hit a column situated in the exact middle of the room, quite close to the glass fixtures.  Its engraving read:

For the Caster's powerful reign to occur,
She must first extract some energy, let me assure.

Twelve pieces of energy from twelve of those who dwell,
Will do the trick, Will start the spell.

And when that's complete, she will be terrifying and bright,
She will rule over all, both day and night.

Alaska and Yukon would allow her to rule unless something happened.

And something did happen.  Just not the something they wanted to happen.

The great doors of the temple closed with a deafening bang.  The Caster moved into the building.  Her black mist turned green, as Alaska had seen in the video.  She had come close enough to start extracting Yukon's power.  She had become excited - she knew she would be able to get the job done with no problems.  The green tint activated when ever this feeling came to her.

Yukon walked towards her as Alaska was pushed back by a terrific wind.

"You are mine now!" screamed the Caster.

Yukon continued his walk.  A light was coming out of him and was subsequently being sucked into the mist like a vacuum.

"Yukon!!!!!!" Alaska screamed helplessly, unable to fight the wind.  She had forgotten all about her once bitter attitude towards him.  He may not have been the most cunning, brave explorer, but he was the nicest person she had ever met.

The handmade blankets and pillows.  The search for better food because of her.  The optimism.  The laughter.  He was a good person.  He cared about her.  And she cared about him.

Yukon crumbled to the ground.  All the life had been sucked out of him.

The Caster now transformed to twice her size.  She was now a giant.

"Now to you, my deary!"  the Caster yelled with sick satisfaction.
